Sir Cliff Richard Reveals Successful Year-Long Treatment for Prostate Cancer
British music legend Sir Cliff Richard has revealed that he underwent a year of private treatment for early-stage prostate cancer. Speaking on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, the 85-year-old singer shared that his cancer was caught early and is currently “gone at the moment”.
An Accidental Diagnosis
Sir Cliff explained that he had shown no physical symptoms prior to the diagnosis. The illness was discovered during a routine medical examination required for insurance purposes ahead of his Can’t Stop Me Now tour in Australia and New Zealand.
“The good fortune was that it was not very old, and the other thing is that it has not metastasised,” the singer remarked. “Nothing had moved into bones or anything like that.” Following 12 months of targeted treatment, his doctors confirmed the localized cancer had been successfully treated, though he remains under regular medical surveillance to monitor for any potential recurrence.
A Call for National Screening
Using his personal experience to advocate for men’s health, Sir Cliff voiced strong frustration over the lack of a universal national prostate cancer screening program in the UK, calling the gap “absolutely ridiculous.” He urged the government to implement routine testing, pointing out that early detection provides the highest chance of successful treatment.
The icon also expressed an eagerness to team up with King Charles III—who spoke publicly about his own cancer journey—to lead public awareness campaigns for men’s health and early screening initiatives.
Despite the health scare, Sir Cliff remains active, continuing to perform and maintaining his long-standing career as one of the UK’s most enduring cultural figures.
