Just days after the world said goodbye to Dolly Parton, Dollywood has revealed something deeply emotional: a new landmark is being created inside the park she helped turn into one of Tennessee’s most beloved destinations. It will not be another ordinary attraction. It is being designed as a place to pause, remember, and feel the spirit of the woman who spent decades reminding people to dream a little bigger.

At the heart of the project will be a cascading mountainside waterfall and reflection area, planned near the Robert F. Thomas Chapel in Dollywood’s Craftsman’s Valley. The setting is intended to give visitors a quiet place to stop, reflect on Dolly’s life, and take in the natural beauty of the Smoky Mountains that shaped so much of her music, faith, and identity. The project is expected to be ready for the beginning of Dollywood’s 2027 season.

The choice of location carries a special meaning. The chapel honors Dr. Robert F. Thomas, the physician who delivered Dolly when she was born in a small cabin in the Tennessee mountains. Now, beside that chapel, a new place of reflection will stand as part of the story Dolly leaves behind. It is almost as if the park is creating a quiet bridge between the little girl who grew up in the mountains and the woman whose dreams eventually reached millions of people around the world.

The chapel itself will also receive new stained-glass windows inspired by Ecclesiastes 3:1, a Bible verse that held deep meaning for Dolly: “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” The windows will portray the changing seasons of the mountains, giving the chapel an even deeper connection to Dolly’s faith and her lifelong relationship with the Smokies.

But the tribute will not end there. Dollywood has announced a new character called The Dream Maker, inspired in part by Dolly’s lifelong commitment to children and her Imagination Library. The character will encourage young visitors to dream boldly, believe in themselves, and lift others up through courage and kindness. Guests will also find special kiosks where they can leave their own memories and share how Dolly inspired them.

The entrance to The Dolly Parton Experience will also be enhanced, creating a new gateway into the collection of costumes, stories, photographs, and memorabilia celebrating her extraordinary life and career. In other words, Dollywood is not simply putting Dolly’s name on another monument. It is building experiences designed to make future generations understand why she mattered.

Perhaps the most touching part is that these changes are not being presented as a replacement for Dolly. According to Dollywood President Eugene Naughton, park leaders had extensive conversations with Dolly over the years about how she wanted the park’s future to look. The goal now is to carry those ideas forward.

And that may be the greatest tribute of all.

Dolly once built Dollywood as a place filled with music, laughter, family, imagination, and hope. Even after her passing on August 25, 2026, the park is determined to remain exactly that. Dollywood has said it will continue growing rather than becoming a place defined by mourning. Dolly’s dream was never for people to stand still and simply remember her. She wanted people to keep dreaming.

So when that waterfall begins to flow, when sunlight passes through the new stained glass, and when another child walks through the park carrying a dream of their own, Dolly’s presence may still be felt.

Not in the way it once was.

But perhaps in the way she always hoped it would be.

A dreamer may leave this world. A dream does not have to.
