Behind Dolly Parton’s rhinestones, legendary songs, and larger-than-life public image was a remarkably private love story — one that lasted nearly six decades.

Dolly met Carl Dean in 1964, shortly after the 18-year-old singer arrived in Nashville to pursue her dreams. Their first encounter famously happened outside the Wishy Washy Laundromat. Two years later, on May 30, 1966, they married in a small ceremony in Ringgold, Georgia.
